    Hooah Daniels Mom!,

I was deployed to Afghanistan from Texas as part of the Army National Guard.  I have a father and two uncles that served in Viet Nam and a grandfather that was in the spanish American war.

Are you rated for disability on the PTSD and the TBI?

I'm rated at 60% right now and I don't miss civilian work at all.  I haven't recieved the first decision on the PTSD rating yet but that's understandable since the first appointment I can get is in 5 weeks. I filed for it but I waited 2 years to start the process.  I've been being treated by a civ outfit because I was told initially that it could be 3months before my first appointment.  This is not medical care worth waiting 30years to earn.

Either way I think you should be thinking about yourself here.  What benefits do you miss if you don't do 8 more years?  I don't know if they still do it but my father served 30 and the fed deducts his disability payments from his retirement so he might as well have gone home at 20.  100% medical at 30yrs is an attractive benefit but you'll get that for the rated disabilities anyway.

There's certainly no shame in hanging it up after what you've done for your country.  As far as your rater is concerned, it doesn't sound like you'll be able to teach him leadership skills or anything.  His methods,if he even has any in mind, are counterproductive or you wouldn't be bothered by it.  You should be inspired by a leader.

Get your satisfaction about your duty from yourself.  Be your own rater.  Look at it honestly. Does your duty satisfy you?  In the end that's what you get from it.  It's your rating that counts for anything once the dust settles and it's finished.  Can you see yourself as being more proud of your service if you have 8 more years?  Do you see yourself getting the care you need and healing yourself now?  If you are getting the treatment you need and the time you need to see to it properly while still serving you are the first person I know to be allowed that.  That's what is important.

I'm new here as well and have PTSD due to MST. I just wanted to let you know that you're not the only one dealing with this. I have migraines associated with this as well. My therapist and PCP told me the migraines are from stress and anxiety related to the MST and PTSD.

As for finding other female vets, you should consider looking at a variety of resources, not just the V.A. Outside resources are an excellent source for women with the issues we have. Just do a google search for resources for female veterans. It should pul up a lot of useful info for you.

Hope this helps and good luck on your journey to healing.
